I have been meeting up with Jim at a coffee shop in Bozeman every other week since last July, and I can honestly say I greatly look forward to our meetings and will be very sad when the time comes for our final session. Jim has supported me through every step of my college applications, starting with building my college list, through writing my personal statement and supplementals, and celebrating with me when I've gotten accepted (at every school I applied to except one!). He has given me so much positive encouragement when I was feeling down, and he assured me that the colleges I was applying to would be the right ones for me. He has been quick to respond to all my questions, and he never fails to offer great advice. Today my parents and I are sending in my deposit to Gustavus Adolphus College, where I plan to study psychology. Before I do that, I wanted to take this moment to thank Jim, and say publicly how much I appreciate all he's done for me. He is really the best!

“I’ve never thought of myself as a good writer, so I was scared when it came time to write my Common App essay. I was worried about being judged by college admissions people who would only know me through a 650-word essay. Jim helped me brainstorm different essay topics, and I decided that the summer I spent with my grandparents in Kosovo was a story I wanted to tell. Jim read at least five drafts of my essay and offered advice until it felt polished. I learned more from writing that essay than I did from four years of writing five-paragraph essays in high school. No joke. I ended up repurposing a longer version of that original essay to win an internship with the State Department.”

Jim was able to help me through a complicated situation with my financial aid. The university I’ll be attending doesn’t offer merit-based scholarships, so Jim helped me and my parents write a letter to the financial aid office explaining why our situation warranted an appeal. In the end the college came through with a much better offer, which I owe completely to Jim’s knowledge and experience in helping us strategize. Jim’s fee was a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the money we’ve been able to save, and I am so grateful. I’m excited to start my college degree in the fall!

Jim was very helpful throughout my college application process, but especially when my acceptance letters started coming in. The financial aid offers were full of jargon that made no sense to either me or my parents. Lucky for us, Jim was right there to guide us through everything and give me the information I needed to make my final decision about where to attend.
